The new Sporting Director Role will oversee all the soccer programming within the club on both the boy’s and girl’s side. Current Executive Director, Chris Baer, will be taking over the facility and business development aspect.

Gus brings an impressive track record, having started his Columbus soccer journey as the U-19 Head Coach at the Columbus Crew Academy. Prior to moving to the Crew, he served as the Academy Technical Director with the D.C. United Academy, where he played a crucial role in shaping the development of youth talents from 2014 to 2021.
His coaching journey within D.C. United includes noteworthy milestones such as serving as the Assistant Coach for the Academy’s U-13 and U-14 teams, progressing to the role of U-15 Head Coach (2015-16), U13s (2016-17), U14s (2017-19), and finally U17s (2019-20). His dedication to coaching excellence was further highlighted when he worked with Loudoun United FC, D.C. United’s reserve team, under Richie Williams during the 2019 season.
Most recently, Gus served as the U-17 Head Coach for Crew Academy, leading the team to the final of the 2022 MLS NEXT Cup and the semi-finals of the Generation Adidas (GA) Cup in April 2023. His commitment to player development is evident in the success of academy players now contributing to the Crew’s first and second teams.
Gus holds several coaching certifications, including a USSF ‘A’ License and the Elite Formation Coaching License (EFCL), a testament to his dedication to continuous improvement. He has also played a pivotal role in contributing to Continued Professional Development (CPD) courses for the MLS.
Off the field, Gus and his wife, Leslie, along with their three sons, Tavi, Luca, and Remy, call Dublin their home, adding a personal touch to our community.
